B is for BIAS...What is the PURPOSE of the source?
It is important to determine if the source you are reading is trying to persuade, inform, or sell something. Ask yourself if the source is trying to make you believe something they believe. Or, are they trying to get you to spend money on their products? Are you reading someone else's opinion, or are you reading objective facts? Does the source provide both sides of the issue, or just their own? If you aren't sure, try reading the "About Us" information, or try looking for a Mission Statement. Once you can figure out a source's purpose or bias, you can more easily decide if it meets your needs as a source of information.
